Events

Polkerris Beach makes a great venue for events, being a self-contained, private beach. However, public access is always available and we have no wish to inconvenience the residents of Polkerris.
In the past, the beach has played host to corporate events, the Fat Face Rock Up And Sea Tour, a Team15 windsurfing event and the Fowey Lifeboat’s 150th anniversary.
AHOY! Polkerris Beach Pirate Swim 2013
This year's big event at Polkerris Beach is the swashbuckling Polkerris Beach Pirate swim, out round the bay and back.
Raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care, the swim takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August. With its pirate theme, the swim is a light-hearted event for a serious cause and will see one hundred swimmers set off from Polkerris to Killivarder Rock and back to the beach – a total distance of around one mile.
The event is open to any competent swimmer, used to swimming in open sea conditions, and keen to support the work of the Marie Curie Nursing Service in Cornwall. You are invited to embrace the pirate theme and arrive in style. Aharghhh me hearties!
The event is organised by the Polkerris Beach Company with the help and support of the Rashleigh Inn, Sam’s on the Beach and the Gribbin Gallery – all Polkerris businesses, working together as we have previously for other charity events such as the terrific Lifeboat days in 2009 and 2011.
Polkerris has good event facilities and a sandy beach, with a shallow swimming area and no tidal current, making it a regular training location for local triathlon competitors. We’ll be using our safety boats, equipment and expertise to ensure the smooth running and safety of the event.
The event is open to competent swimmers over the age of 12. Swimmers under the age of 16 must be accompanied on the swim by an adult. The swim will be limited to 100 swimmers, of which 20 can be aged under 16. The swim starts at 10:30 and ends at 12:00. It is not timed and is just for fun and to raise as much money as possible. After the swim, you are invited to stay, kick off the wooden legs, loosen the eye patches and join us for a Post Polkerris Beach Pirate Swim Party! Everyone is welcome, so feel free to bring your friends along.
To register, click here to complete the entry form. Once your registration has been accepted, we will email you a comprehensive set of event information, including sponsor forms. It’s important to note that this is open sea swimming and not for the faint-hearted, even though there will be comprehensive support! The entry fee is £20 and proceeds after direct expenses go to fund the Marie Curie Nursing Service in Cornwall.
